Norwegian Cruise Lines Announces New Ship Designed For Alaska Cruises.

Officials from Norwegian Cruise Line announced that the company will build a new ship specifically designed for the Alaskan market.

Dubbed the Norwegian Bliss, the 4,000-passenger ship will be custom-built with features and amenities designed for Alaska itineraries. The vessel will have its home port in Seattle and is scheduled for delivery in spring 2018.

Norwegian Cruise Line currently operates two ships out of Seattle.

The ceremony to announce the new Norwegian Bliss ship was held at Port of Seattle's Pier 66 and featured comments from Norwegian President and CEO Andy Stuart, Port of Seattle CEO Ted Fick and Port of Seattle Commission President John Creighton.

Norwegian was the first cruise line to begin cruising to Alaska from Seattle in 2000 and it’s only fitting that their newest ship, Norwegian Bliss, be sailing to this incredible location as Alaska is one of the top destinations for guests to explore.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) welcomed Sichuan Airlines’ inaugural flight from Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport (CGO) in China. This twice-weekly flight is the only non-stop service between Zhengzhou and North America, re-enforcing YVR’s position as a world-class connecting hub to the Asia-Pacific region.

Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province, is located in the east-central area of China. It is one of China’s major transportation hubs, located at the intersection of the country’s ground transportation routes. It’s also renowned as one of the eight historical capitals of China. The famous Shaolin Temple, located at the base of Mount Songshan, is the birthplace of the Chinese martial arts that provided the inspiration for Kung Fu movies. This new service will open up trade and business for a new city and strengthen the strong relationship between British Columbia and China.

Sichuan Airlines launched flights between YVR and Mainland China—the airline’s first long-haul destination—in 2012 with three-times weekly service between YVR and Chengdu via Shenyang. The new service to Chengdu via Zhengzhou replaces the airline’s existing flight to Chengdu via Shenyang on Tuesdays and Fridays. The Sunday flights remain unchanged and will continue to fly through Shenyang. All Sichuan Airlines’ flights arrive at YVR at 8:35 AM and depart at 10:25 AM. Sichuan Airlines flights out of YVR operate on Airbus A330-200 aircraft, featuring 36 business seats and 207 economy seats.

By the end of 2016, YVR will have service from six Mainland Chinese carriers, two more than any other airport in North America and Europe.

New services connect YVR to Frankfurt and London.

Air Canada recently announced new, non-stop seasonal daily service to Frankfurt (FRA) and three-times weekly service to London Gatwick (LGW) for the summer of 2017. These new services will further expand Air Canada’s international hub at YVR and will provide passengers with exciting new travel possibilities.

Air Canada will launch service between YVR and Frankfurt Airport on June 1, 2017 on Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft, featuring 20 International Business Class individual lie-flat suites, 21 Premium Economy seats and 210 Economy Class seats. Air Canada Rouge will launch service to London Gatwick on June 8 on a Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft featuring premium and economy cabins.

Air Canada continues to strategically increase its European flights at YVR with seasonal daily flights to Frankfurt next summer and three times weekly flights to London Gatwick, this will be the only airline flying non-stop between YVR and the two largest airports in the London metropolitan region during the peak summer travel period with the addition of London Gatwick.

By next summer, Air Canada will serve five European destinations non-stop from YVR including two significant hubs, Frankfurt and London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Dublin, and on a code-share basis with joint venture partner Lufthansa Munich, strengthening YVR as an important hub.
