Disney Cruise Line’s first ship dedicated to the Japanese market will be named Disney Imagination, with cruises departing from Tokyo expected to begin in spring 2029. The announcement marks an important step in bringing Disney-themed cruise vacations to Japan.

The vessel will be operated by Oriental Land Co., Ltd. (OLC), the company responsible for Tokyo Disney Resort under a licensing agreement with Disney. The launch will introduce Disney Cruise Line Japan, giving families and Disney fans in Japan a new way to experience Disney entertainment and storytelling at sea.

Disney Imagination to Feature Ariel on Its Stern

Continuing Disney Cruise Line’s tradition of featuring a Disney character on the stern of each ship, Disney Imagination will showcase Ariel from The Little Mermaid, accompanied by Sebastian and other undersea friends.

The design will depict Ariel using a “dinglehopper” to draw the ship’s name, reflecting her curiosity, creativity and adventurous personality. The artwork connects the vessel’s identity to the theme of imagination.

The ship’s name was announced during a ceremony in Tokyo attended by executives from Oriental Land Co. and Disney, marking a new chapter in their longstanding partnership.

A New Chapter for Disney Cruises in Japan

Disney Imagination will join the Wish class of Disney Cruise Line ships, alongside Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, Disney Destiny and the upcoming Disney Believe.

Its planned debut in spring 2029 will expand Disney’s cruise presence into Japan, offering local travellers the opportunity to enjoy Disney-inspired entertainment, themed experiences and family vacations at sea without needing to travel overseas to begin their cruise.

The introduction of Disney Imagination is expected to bring a new option to Japan’s cruise market, combining Disney storytelling with the appeal of sailing from Tokyo.
