By introducing rail and bus services to additional nations in Europe and Asia, Air Canada is broadening its multimodal strategy.
Land transportation alternatives to Italy, Spain, Britain, and South Korea can now be added to an itinerary by customers booking flights with Air Canada.
The Canadian airline gave passengers the opportunity to add air-to-rail connections at airports in France, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria when it introduced the intermodal program in Europe in December 2023.
Air Canada's intermodal network now includes South Korea as its first Asian operator. Air Canada passengers can now use the AREX Express and Seoul Station to connect to KORAIL's KTX Trains.
According to Mark Galardo, executive vice president of revenue and network planning at Air Canada, "Air Canada is further expanding its intermodal strategy to more European gateways and to Asia, making it possible for our customers to connect on Trenitalia, Renfe, five operators in the UK, including National Express, and KORAIL in South Korea."
Customers can now reserve ground transportation on Air Canada's website thanks to a partnership with AccesRail. Instead of purchasing a separate train or bus ticket, passengers can check in for the train or bus leg of their trip before they travel.
Customers will have their air and land segments rescheduled in the event of flight disruptions or delays.
In addition to giving them more options, Galardo said, "our intermodal connections make sustainable options available for short-haul segments of their journey."
