Air Canada Introduces Free In-Flight Wi-Fi for Aeroplan Members

Air Canada has officially launched fast, free Wi-Fi for Aeroplan members on all flights within North America, as well as on routes to sun destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico, beginning May 1. This new service allows members to stay connected from gate to gate using their personal devices to stream content, browse the internet, or play games.

Currently, 88% of Air Canada’s fleet is equipped with Wi-Fi, and the airline expects to complete installations across its entire fleet by early 2026. This includes a notable industry first: Wi-Fi will soon be available on Air Canada Express Q400 aircraft flying from Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport.

The service is exclusive to Aeroplan members, but anyone can join the program for free. Non-members will still be able to purchase Wi-Fi access for a flat fee.

Wi-Fi access is available on Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, and Air Canada Express flights operated with CRJ900 aircraft. Future expansions are planned for the Embraer E175 and De Havilland Q400 fleets starting later this year. Additionally, Air Canada plans to extend free Wi-Fi to long-haul international routes in 2026. Until then, Aeroplan members can continue to enjoy free texting on those flights.

A test run of the service on April 30, during a flight from Toronto (YYZ) to Montreal (YUL), confirmed that logging in was simple, and passengers could easily stream TV shows and send emails.

To access the free Wi-Fi, passengers must ensure their Aeroplan number is added to their booking either during the reservation process or before check-in. Once onboard, they simply connect to the in-flight Wi-Fi network and follow the on-screen instructions. Switching devices is easy as well—just reconnect on the new device to transfer the session.

The move highlights Air Canada’s focus on enhancing the travel experience through improved connectivity, offering a level of service that sets a new standard among North American airlines.

Bell has sponsored Air Canada's in-flight Wi-Fi since 2023, initially supporting free texting. The partnership now powers this expanded service, enabling full streaming and gaming capabilities onboard.

In comparison, WestJet currently provides free Wi-Fi on 30% of its narrowbody fleet and plans to complete installations on all narrowbody aircraft by the end of 2025 and on widebody aircraft by the end of 2026. Porter Airlines offers free Wi-Fi on its Embraer E195-E2 aircraft only.
