AmaWaterways has unveiled the first details and renderings of AmaRudi, a new double-width river ship scheduled to launch on the Danube River in spring 2027.
AmaRudi will be the company’s second double-width vessel, following AmaMagna, which debuted in 2019. It will join its sister ship as one of the largest river cruise ships in Europe.
The ship will accommodate 196 guests in 98 staterooms and suites. Features include spacious public areas, multiple dining options, and enhanced wellness facilities. Its design is inspired by the destinations and cultures along the Danube River.
Recognizing a River Cruise Visionary
AmaRudi will be the first AmaWaterways ship named after a man. The vessel honours co-founder and Chairman Rudi Schreiner, who grew up near Austria’s Danube River.
According to Schreiner, more ocean cruise passengers are choosing river cruises and looking for greater space and more options. He described AmaMagna as one of the most rewarding projects of his career and said having a ship bear his name is especially meaningful. He added that it reflects the legacy AmaWaterways has built over more than 20 years of river cruising.
Food, Fitness and Fun
Dining will be a key part of the AmaRudi experience. Guests can enjoy multiple venues, including Journey’s Restaurant, The Chef’s Table, al fresco dining and Rudi’s Wine Bar, inspired by Rudi Schreiner’s love of wine and European culture.
The ship will offer complimentary beer, soft drinks and a selection of more than 30 wines during lunch and dinner. New Italian lunch menus will be available at The Chef’s Table, while a Sun Deck barbecue will provide another casual dining option.
Wellness facilities will include massage rooms, salon services, a fitness centre and relaxation areas. Wellness Hosts will lead fitness classes and wellness activities onboard and ashore.
AmaRudi will also feature a full-sized pickleball court on the Sun Deck.
AmaRudi will feature a new entertainment venue created exclusively for the ship. It will act as a social hub for guests.
The space will include a cinema, karaoke, billiards and a jukebox. Soundproofing has been added throughout the venue to ensure guest comfort.
River Cruising of the Future
Sustainability is built into the design of AmaRudi, as with all new AmaWaterways vessels. The ship will feature Stage V engines, solar panels, shore power connectivity, spud poles and lightweight materials to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
AmaWaterways CEO Catherine Powell said AmaRudi reflects the company’s confidence in the future of river cruising and its focus on innovation. She noted that since the launch of AmaMagna, travellers and advisors have asked about another similar ship. She said AmaRudi takes that concept further while maintaining the line’s signature service and intimate experience.
The ship is scheduled to begin sailing on the Danube River in spring 2027. It will operate several of AmaWaterways’ most popular itineraries. Further details on accommodations, onboard experiences and bookings will be released in the coming months.
