Carnival's Princess Cruises places a high-profile wager on beverage packages

Sun up and drink down when it's daytime drinking. The well-known cruise line's unofficial motto, "Gonna pass another round," might soon catch on.

Princess Cruises has an amazing history, at least among those of a certain age, even though it may not have the same name recognition as its parent company's namesake brand, Carnival Cruise Line. "The Love Boat," which broadcast on ABC from 1977 until 1986, introduced the concept of cruising to a large number of Americans, at least those over 40.

Each episode of the show featured a different love subplot, and it was well-known for bringing in well-known guest stars. The show gave the cruise industry widespread exposure in the much smaller, pre-cable world in which it aired, and Princess Cruises of Carnival continues to capitalize on this in their marketing.

"Princess Cruises is The Love Boat, the world’s most iconic cruise brand that delivers dream vacations to millions of guests every year in the most sought-after destinations on the largest ships that offer elite service personalization and simplicity customary of small, yacht-class ships," the cruise company stated on its website.

In a sense, Princess covers the same territory for Carnival as Celebrity Cruises does for Royal Caribbean. In contrast to Carnival, this brand caters more to adults than children and provides a more upscale experience.

That being said, Princess Cruises has made some improvements to its wine and liquor assortment that will attract some celebrity power, so it doesn't seem like its patrons aren't up for a good time.

Princess Cruises bets big on upscale adult beverages

Princess Cruises has made mixology and higher-end beverages a part of its brand offering. The cruise line's Premier Beverage Package offers an upscale bar experience for passengers including:

  • Top-shelf spirits, reserve wines by the glass, and exclusive high-end cocktails crafted by Mixologist Rob Floyd

  • Over 75 premium spirits, 40+ wines by the glass, and 20+ high-end crafted cocktails to choose from

  • Premier wines by the glass, including Duckhorn, Stag's Leap, Grgich Hills, and Cattier Champagne

  • Exclusive Private Woodford Reserve Bourbon Selection created for Princess

  • Personalized Jack Daniel's Whiskey Single Barrel Select

Presently, the cruise line intends to introduce its brand-new "Love Line Premium Liquors" line to increase the selection of alcoholic beverages it offers.

"Crafted in collaboration with renowned celebrities Pitbull, Jason Aldean, and Romero Britto, this exclusive line of wines and spirits promises an unparalleled experience for guests sailing aboard ships from the Love Boat," Princess Cruises announced on its website.

Sun Princess is now offering the "Love Line" collection; later this summer, the rest of the fleet will get access to it as well.

The carefully chosen wines and spirits in Princess' "Love Line Premium Liquors" line each have the distinct touch of their celebrity lover. The cruise line said, "This collection caters to the discerning tastes of Princess Cruises guests, from the smooth allure of premium vodka to the organic notes of crafted wine."

Big-name musicians, artist bring alcohol to Princess Cruises

Sammy Hagar is to blame for the large number of celebrities who have started their own booze companies. In 2007, the former frontman of Van Halen sold Gruppo Campari an 80 percent share in his Cabo Wabo tequila company for eighty million dollars.

That sparked a trend of well-known individuals endorsing alcohol companies with their names. Princess Cruises has profited on this by incorporating booze from three distinct celebrities. The cruise company listed some of its products in detail:

  • Pitbull's Voli 305 Vodka is a celebration of elegance and sophistication that captures the exuberance of Miami nightlife. This opulent vodka, which was developed in collaboration with Pitbull, is expertly distilled and delivers a hint of luxury with each drink.

  • Love Prosecco by Britto: Celebrated winemaker Villa Sandi and artist Romero Britto have collaborated to create Love Prosecco, a limited-edition beverage that combines artistic expression with the best of Italian craftsmanship. It can be enjoyed at Love by Britto restaurant on Sun Princess and in bars throughout the Princess fleet.

  • Jason Aldean's Melorosa Sauvignon Blanc, Red Blend, and Cabernet Sauvignon: This celebrated country music icon's Melorosa Sauvignon Blanc, Red Blend, and Cabernet Sauvignon, along with his sister Kasi Wicks and fellow country music artist and entertainer Chuck Wicks, complete the first brands that comprise the intriguing new Love Line collection.

The new drink line will be free to sample for any passenger traveling with Princess Cruises and having a Premier beverage package.

According to Princess Cruises President John Padgett, "The Love Line Collection is a natural extension of the elegance and sophistication found throughout our Princess ships and makes every sip a journey worth savoring."
