Air Canada Offers Holiday Travel Tips as Peak Season Nears
Air Canada is sharing six tips to make holiday travel easier, with the heaviest travel days expected from December 19 to 23.
Here are six of Air Canada’s best tips to help travellers navigate the busy holiday season with ease.
Travellers can access Air Canada’s free mobile app through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Air Canada’s highly rated mobile app offers travellers a personalized experience based on their bookings. Passengers use it to check in, access digital boarding passes, receive real-time flight and gate updates, and track checked baggage at select airports.
Air Canada advises passengers to complete check-in 24 hours prior to departure using the app or the airline’s website.
Air Canada advises travellers to verify contact details, check baggage deadlines, and use the app for the latest flight, gate, and boarding updates. Any schedule changes are automatically updated and shared via email or SMS.
Passengers should verify that they possess the proper and valid travel documents needed for their trip.
Air Canada reminds travellers that their ID must match the name on their ticket and that a valid government-issued ID is required to board all commercial flights. Some destinations may also require additional documents, such as visas. Passengers are encouraged to review airport services, including options for expedited or reserved pre-boarding security screening.
Travellers should pack efficiently and ensure their baggage complies with airline limits.
Travel experts note that most passengers tend to overpack, so careful planning is recommended, along with checking baggage when possible. Air Canada advises travellers to:
Know and follow baggage number, size, and weight limits for both checked and carry-on items.
Include name and contact information inside checked bags as well as on external tags to aid recovery if tags are lost.
Keep valuables, medications, laptops, keys, and money in a carry-on that fits under the seat.
Review pre-boarding security requirements, including liquid restrictions and unwrapped gifts.
Travellers should give themselves plenty of time at the airport to check in and move through terminals smoothly.
The Air Canada app offers recommended arrival times, terminal details, and guidance for a smooth airport experience. Travellers are advised to:
Use a self-serve kiosk to print and attach their bag tag.
Drop off checked baggage at the designated station.
Proceed through security and head to the gate to relax before boarding.
Passengers may use an AirTag or other Find My network accessory in their checked bags for tracking purposes.
Customers can use the new Share Item Location feature to privately and securely share the location of their AirTag or Find My network accessory with Air Canada’s customer service in the event of a delayed bag, helping the airline reunite bags with their owners more quickly.
To do this, customers can generate a Share Item Location link in the Find My app on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac and securely share it with Air Canada’s baggage team via the Delayed Baggage Claim website.
For customers’ privacy and security, location sharing will automatically end once the bag is returned, can be stopped by the customer at any time, and will expire automatically after seven days.
To use this feature, customers should ensure their Apple device is running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 (or later).
