Launching on November 4, 2024, Harbour Air will introduce its first-ever wheeled flight service between Vancouver and Victoria Harbour Airport. This new service will complement the airline's existing more than 20 seaplane flights on the same route.
The addition of wheeled aircraft will offer travelers flexible daily commuting options from early morning to evening, with departures and arrivals at the main airports. This expansion allows for flights during nighttime hours—something that the float planes cannot accommodate.
Harbour Air is responding to the high demand for flights between Vancouver and Victoria. The converted Canadian-built 19-seater Twin Otter aircraft will feature wheels and de-icing equipment, enabling year-round operations.
“We're very excited to launch our first-ever wheeled flights, providing passengers with new flexible commuting options for early mornings and late evenings,” said Chris Fordyce, VP of Commercial at Harbour Air Group. “Being limited to daylight-only flights has hindered our ability to operate at key times during winter. The ability to fly in darkness and operate from airports on wheels is a game changer for us.”
In addition, Harbour Air has recently made changes across its flight network to enhance seating capacity and frequency on other routes. This includes adding additional daily flights for Powell River to downtown Vancouver and Powell River to Richmond (YVR South) starting in October, as well as increasing Nanaimo connector flights for Sechelt and expanding capacity for existing Vancouver to Victoria seaplane flights.
