New Montreal Metropolitan Airport Set to Launch with Porter Airlines

Montreal is preparing to welcome a second major airport, offering travelers a new and convenient way to access the city. The Montreal Metropolitan Airport (MET) is scheduled to open on June 15, with Porter Airlines as its launch carrier, alongside regional service from Pascan Aviation.

Located about 30 minutes from downtown and Old Montreal, the new airport is expected to significantly impact the local travel market. A large portion of Montreal residents live closer to MET than to the city’s primary airport, making it a convenient alternative for both departures and arrivals.

At launch, Porter Airlines will introduce service to 12 destinations, including Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Halifax, and St. John's. This expansion will nearly double the airline’s capacity in Montreal, with half of the routes representing new markets for the carrier in the city.

The airport will accommodate both the De Havilland Dash 8-400 and the Embraer E195-E2, supporting a mix of regional and longer-haul domestic routes. From Toronto, travelers can choose between frequent flights via Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Operating under the airport code YHU, MET is built on the existing infrastructure of the former Montréal–Saint-Hubert Airport, now redeveloped with a new terminal operated by YHU Infrastructure Partners. The facility includes 28 check-in counters, 10 self-service kiosks, and fully in-house ground operations such as fuelling and de-icing. Dining options at launch will include Bâton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar and a café.

The addition of MET positions Montreal alongside other major cities with multiple airports, giving travelers more flexibility and choice. It also strengthens Porter Airlines’ growing network, which has recently seen increased demand across both domestic and U.S. routes, as well as strong performance in sun destinations such as the Caribbean, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
