WestJet Issues Lockout Notice Following Union's 72-Hour Strike Notice

WestJet and Flight Attendants Face Potential Labour Disruption

WestJet and the union representing approximately 4,400 flight attendants have each issued 72-hour notices, with the union filing a strike notice and WestJet issuing a lockout notice. Both parties continue negotiations in an effort to reach an agreement and avoid service disruptions.

If no agreement is reached, a work stoppage could begin as early as August 2, 2026. WestJet has advised that some flights may be adjusted or cancelled in preparation for potential labour action. The airline has also introduced flexible change and cancellation options for eligible travel between July 30 and August 4, 2026.

Regional WestJet Encore flights and partner-operated codeshare flights, including those operated by Delta Air Lines, are not expected to be affected.

Passengers are encouraged to monitor their flight status and check directly with WestJet or their travel advisor for the latest updates. WestJet has stated that affected travellers will be offered rebooking or refunds, where applicable.
