WestJet Rewards Program Undergoes a Major Transformation

WestJet is upgrading its rewards program by replacing WestJet Dollars with WestJet Points, making it easier for travelers to earn and redeem rewards. The changes aim to enhance flexibility and value while maintaining a simple and user-friendly experience.

Key Updates to the Program:

  • WestJet Points Replace WestJet Dollars – WestJet Dollars will be converted to WestJet Points at a rate of 100 points per dollar. Points will not expire, and members’ balances will reflect the change starting April 30, 2025. The new system will integrate with everyday partners while keeping redemption straightforward.

  • Earn and Redeem on More Travel Costs – Members will now accumulate points and top-tier qualifying spend credit on carrier surcharges and extras such as seat selection, checked baggage, and upgrades, in addition to base fares. Government taxes and fees are the only exclusions. Teal members will also see their earn rate double to one point per dollar. Additionally, travelers can now use points to cover the entire fare, including extras and taxes.

  • Achieve Status Without Flying – For the first time, top-tier status, including Platinum, can be reached without flying. Travelers can qualify by spending on the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard or by combining flight and credit card spending through the updated Status Lift feature. All ticket components, except for government taxes and fees, will count toward status.

  • Earn Rewards Through Everyday Shopping – The new WestJet Rewards eStore will allow members to earn points through online shopping and redeem them for merchandise and gift cards from major retailers like Amazon, Apple, Sephora, and Sport Chek.

  • New Partnerships with Canadian Brands – Members will soon be able to link their WestJet Rewards accounts with TELUS Rewards and Skip, unlocking perks like point transfers and bonus offers. Points can also be earned and redeemed for TELUS services and Skip orders. Additional partners will be announced later in the year.

These program enhancements will take effect on April 30, 2025, giving members more opportunities to accumulate and use points for travel and everyday purchases.
