Thailand's Special Tourist Visa program has been expanded to all other countries, regardless of their current Covid-19 situation.
Since launching the program demand has been lukewarm, the government says, as it was targeted only at select countries with low infection rates.
Now open for all travellers, the mandatory 14-day quarantine is still required, said government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek.
"Previously the STV only allowed in tourists from countries with a low risk of Covid-19 infections under Public Health Ministry regulations. However, only 825 persons from 29 countries and six yachts have applied so far, which is lower than the government's estimation."
Arrivals must have a reservation at an approved alternative quarantine facility hotel and purchase health insurance that covers Covid-19 treatment for up to US$100,000.
Thailand has recorded more than 4,000 Covid-19 cases and 60 deaths so far.
