Tulum Named the Happiest Place to Travel

Tulum, Mexico has been named the happiest travel destination in the world, according to a new study analyzing more than one million online travel reviews.

Travel insurance company JustCover reviewed visitor feedback across 155 destinations, looking for language that reflected genuine happiness and positive experiences. Each destination was then given a “Happy Place” score out of 100.

Tulum earned a perfect score of 100, taking the top spot among destinations around the world.

Located on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, about 130 kilometers south of Cancun, Tulum is known for its combination of ancient Mayan history, natural attractions, beaches, food, nightlife, and wellness experiences.

The destination is home to well-preserved Mayan ruins overlooking the Caribbean Sea, as well as cenotes and other natural attractions that draw travelers throughout the year.

Mexico was the only country to have two destinations in the top five, with Tulum taking first place and Oaxaca ranking third.
